My Previous “About Me”

Hello! My name is Venghour. I was born Friday 24th May, 2002. Now I study at Liger Learning Center school. In my family I have two brothers and two sisters and I am the second brother in my family. In my free time I like to swim, play football, read and draw pictures. My favorite book is Roald Dahl, like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Fantastic Mr. Fox. In Liger I am strong at reading. We take trips outside for students to study outside. My best trips are to Mondulkiri province and Oxfam. The thing that I need to learn more is how to teach the people to understand clearly.

Learning Facilitator:  Sophorn

Number of Students: 12

Dates: May 15-June 17

Course Description: In our Exploration class we have learned about plastics and also we learned how to become TV reporters. We also had a lot of trips because we wanted to know more information about plastics. For example we went to BKKM (Boeung Keng Kong Market), City mall, Cintri and the Ministry of Environment. The reasons why we went on the trips were because we wanted to know how the people use the plastics each day. We wanted to compare which market uses a lot of plastics. When we went on the trip we also interviewed the sellers and the buyers about the plastics. The questions that we asked them were important for us and they also told us a lot of information that they knew. When we went to the Cintri we can know how they work. Cintri has one important idea like how to help the environment. They told us that if we wanted the people to follow us like they use less plastics it needs to start from you. Then when they see us do that they will do too. In class we also learned about plastics and we made the TV channel about plastic so other people can know how bad the plastics are and the problems to the environment and animals, when there are plastics a lot. So our group did the presentation to the people in the community that is near our school. Some people they nearly cry because they know about it and never hear the children can know a lot of information about plastics. When we were in class we divided it in the groups, some people wrote the reflection when we came back from the trip and put it in the blog and some people edited the video. Some time when we went to trip like go to BKKM we went with other groups that learn about plastics, so can share our ideas and some people they can get new ideas.

Algebra C Description

Name of Course: Algebra C

Learning Facilitator: Jeff

Number of Students: 12

Dates: Jan 19-March 27

Days we Meet: Thursday and Friday

Course Description: Our group learned about Algebra. We started to learn one big keyword is PEMDAS. Then we started to study the definition of each letter. PEMDAS means: P stands for Parenthesis, E stands for Exponent, M stands for Multiply, D stands for Divide, A stands for Add and S stands for Subtraction. After this we learned about negative numbers and positive numbers. We learned how to multiply, divide, add and subtract negative numbers and positive numbers together. With that we had the equation to practice too. When we finished this we drew the number line to know about negative and positive numbers. Then we tried to solve the problems with parenthesis and exponents together. Next we worked on combining like terms and x,y tables. All the problems that we did the teacher can help a little bit and the less we must to do it by ourselves. The teacher helped us and taught us very well. In the class we worked like a team then we gave the work to the teacher to check.

Botany 2 Description

Name of Course: Botany 2

Learning Facilitator: Jojo

Number of Students: 9

Dates: October 20-January 16

Days we Meet: Thursday-Friday

Course Description:In our Advanced Enrichment we learned about botany. Botany means learning about plants. Plants are the only organisms that can make their own food and that’s called sugar or glucose. Plants make their own food is called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis means plants take sunlight to make their own food. Plants make photosynthesis on the leaves. The organ in leaves works to make the food. In leaves have chloroplast and in chloroplast have chlorophyll. Plants take the carbon dioxide and lay out oxygen. During the day, they do photosynthesis. Plants have physical features. There are: roots, stem, leaves, fruits and flowers. In the stem there are two tubes. First tube is for sucking the food or it’s called nutrients and the second tube is for sucking the water. In our class we had the activity is growing the plants. Our resources were paper, plastic bag, water and seed. First we needed to soak paper with water but not very wet and put the seed in it. Rub it not too tight and put in plastic bag. The plastic bag needed to be open for oxygen get in it and put at the place that have a sunlight. We need to put the water, unless the paper is dry. When the seed germinates like come out the stem, leaves, we take out from the paper and put in the soil.

Anatomy 1 Description

Name of Course: Anatomy 1

Learning Facilitator: Jo

Number of Students: 12 students

Days We meet: August 12 – October 17

Course Description: In this Advanced Enrichment we learned about body. Our bodies have four systems: Skeletal system (bones), Digestive system (stomach), Respiratory system (lungs), Circulatory system (heart). We watched the video about people’s bodies. The digestive system is the system that help to break down the food and take the nutrients from the food and take the waste out of body. Digestive system is very important for our body because it helpsyou to break down the food into small pieces. The skeletal system is also important in our body because if you break the bones you will have a big problem. You have to go to the hospital and tell the doctor what is the problem. We also did the presentation for people to listen because we want people to take care of their health. In our group we shared into four teams and one team had three people. We had to share our position in the group: one was patient and two were nurses and doctors. We presented four things and they wereSkeletal system, Digestive system, Respiratory system and Circulatory system. People usedsome clothes to wear when they were acting. We watched the videos and read the books to find information.

Khmer History Description

Name of Course: Khmer History

Learning Facilitators: Darath and Kimchhel

Days of the Week: Monday and Tuesday

Number of Students: 13

Dates Study: August 12-Oct 17

Course Description: In our Advanced Enrichment we divided the group into two. One group learned with Kimchhel and other group learned with Darath. The group that learned with Kimchhel learned about Chenla era (Chela) and Preah Bath TroSork Pa-eam era (Dark Ages). But the group that learned with Darath learned about Nokor Phnom era (Funan Empire) and Angkor era (Khmer Empire). At the end of the class both groups shared what they had learned and the group that not yet learned took the notes. Then the teacher asked the group that took the notes about what our friends had told us. Usually we did this for both groups. Also, the group that learned with Kimchhel or with Darath reviewed the things that they had learned from last week. When we learned in Khmer History class we learned a lot about Khmer history. Now we want to tell you one thing from every era. Nokor Phnom era (Funan Empire) was from years 68-550. Chenla era (Chenla) was from years 550-802. Angkor era (Khmer Empire) was from years 802-1431. Liger Public Relations (PR) Description

Exploration 5 –

Exploration Name: Public Relations (PR)

Exploration Dates: March 10th-May 2nd, 2014

Number of students: 8

Essential Questions/ Areas:

1. Literacy Coaching

2. Presentation Skills

3. Global Connections

Description:

In our Exploration class, we had three things to work on. The first area was global connections. Global connections mean that we share what we do at Liger with people around the world by using Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and blog. The first thing we used is Instagram because we can post the picture and caption to show what we do at Liger. The second area we practiced was literacy coaching. Literacy coaching is about teaching other students about literacy. This means when students need help to edit a blog or presentation we help them edit and give them some feedback or advice. The last is Presentation skills. The presentation skills we learned about are stance, eye contact, fidget, speed, and volume. Our goal was to share Liger to the world, have more people come to our Exploration Celebration and get more followers on Instagram.

Tropical Forest Ecology Description

Exploration 4 –

Exploration Name: Forest Ecology

Exploration Dates: Oct 7, 2013 – Nov 19, 2013

Number of students: 12

Essential Questions: (1) What is an ecosystem? (2) What is a natural resource?

Forest Ecology Description:      An ecosystem is the living things and the non-living things connecting with each other. The one example is algae. Algae take the sunlight for food and fish eat algae and then people eat fish. This is one connection. In Ecosystems class we had a journey book to take notes or write keywords that we don’t know what that word means. In Ecology class the first topic that we learned was tropical forest. We did not just learn only tropical forests but we also learned a lot of kinds of forests like conifers and others. A tropical forest is the forest that has rain a lot all year. We also learned about ecological relationships. Ecological relationships mean that one organism and another organism connect with each other. Ecological relationships are divided in five parts. They are parasitism, commensalism, predator-prey, mutualism and competition. Our Ecology group went to Mondolkiri province to study there. We spent six days at Mondol Kirai. We met a lot of people like Bunong people. On Saturday we came back to our school and we shared what we learned.

Crisis Management Description

Exploration 3 –

Exploration Name: Crisis Management

Exploration Dates: November 20th-January 17th

Number of students: 11

Essential Questions/Areas: 1. What is a crisis?

                                            2. How do people, especially in Cambodia, manage crises?

                                            3. What are natural disasters and how are they related to

                                                crises?

Crisis Management Description:     In our crisis Exploration we learned a lot of things that happen outside in the environment. Crisis is the bad thing that happens to people and is unsafe to people. Example: the cars are crashing or the train is falling. We learned about what is a natural disaster. Natural disasters are caused by nature. Natural disasters are: earthquakes, avalanches, and storms, for example. Then we talked about a volcano. A volcano is the mountain that has magma inside. When it is erupting out, the magma will turn to lava. Lava can make islands when it touches the cold place and it turns to the rock. Crisis management is how the aid workers help people when there is a crisis. One way they help is by evacuating people away. Example: when it has a flood, aid workers evacuate people out to the safe place. We also took a trip to share with the students at the government school at Takhmao City. We chose this school because this is the old school that two Liger students have learned at before. We taught the students who were in grades 5 and 6. We shared some things that we learned like floods, storms, earthquakes, and avalanches. The students were very smart to answer the questions and understand the information.
